WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

The Hartford is seeking an experienced leader in the Philadelphia/Eastern PA region to manage day to day operations of its Auto Physical Damage Unit.  The successful candidate will manage a group of 5-7 appraisers along with all direct repair facilities and independent appraisers located within the specified territory.  The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of direct supervisory experience with similarly sized organizations.


 

Duties and Responsibilities

The APD/ASR (Auto Physical Damage/Auto Service Rep.)Team Leader is accountable for Quality, Service and Cost Effectiveness of his/her Team of ASRs.

Core expectations of an APD/ASR Team Leader

1. Contribute towards achieving the Company's goals and objectives, by supporting members of his/her and other Teams.

2. Monitor and maintain the Team's damage estimating quality, at or above Company requirements, by ensuring consistent: 1) compliance with Company Best Practices and jurisdictional requirements, 2) utilization of the most cost-effective, industry recognized methods of vehicle repair, 3) accurate values on total loss vehicles, 4) Proper settlements of total loss vehicle claims, 5) ongoing technical training.

3. Monitor and maintain the Team's appraisal service performance, at or above Company requirements, for appraisal cycletime, salvage movement and other time-sensitive appraisal service areas.

4. Ensure consistent delivery of Customer Satisfaction, at or above expected levels.

5. Consistently provide cost-effective results, through meeting or exceeding reinspection and ASR productivity requirements.

6. Consistently provide cost-effective results by controlling within guidelines: 1) independent appraiser utilization, 2) the Team's business expenses and expense reporting, and 3) Proper allocation of production and time management for overtime requested.

7. Ensure the Team always has up-to-date knowledge of all insurance-related automobile physical damage and claim adjusting regulations, guidelines, laws and requirements, which are applicable within the states serviced by the Team.

8. Ensure the Team has complete and up-to-date knowledge of all applicable Bad Faith and Unfair Claims Practices guidelines within the states serviced by the Team.

9. Conduct the business and duties of the position at the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.

10. Continually improve the Team's business skills, technical skills and knowledge, through ongoing education, and pursuit of professional insurance and automobile estimating credentials, certificates and other credentials.

11. Maintain above-average computer literacy, with thorough knowledge of the company's standard estimating application, and its work product oversight capabilities.

Additional expectations include:

1. Assisting with on-boarding, training and mentoring of other staff members, as requested.

2. Overnight, extended travel, and lengthy stays away from home, as needed to fully perform the duties of the job, and for catastrophe duty when needed.

3. Other job related responsibilities and projects as requested.

WHAT IS THE COMPENSATION OPPORTUNITY?

At the Hartford, our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay competitive base salaries and reward performance. The base salary for this position starts at $61,000.   In addition, you will be eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefits program including Medical, Dental, Life and Disability Insurance, a 401K Plan, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan and more.

Qualified candidates will have the following requirements:

1. Five years of consecutive automobile damage appraisal field experience.

 

2. Strong preference for prior management exp. with an auto insurance carrier.

3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

4. High degree of computer literacy, with thorough knowledge of the company's standard estimating application, and its work product oversight capabilities.

5. Exp. with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, or similar computer applications.

6. Appraiser and adjuster licenses as required by states or jurisdictions.

7. Four year college degree a plus.

8. Credentials, designations or certifications for insurance claim professionals, automobile damage estimators, or other professional, educational credentials are a plus.

9. Demonstrated levels of the following competencies.

ADA Requirements

Physical Requirements: Moderate. Must be able to proficiently and safely operate an automobile on daily, short, repetitive trips and/or for prolonged daily periods. Additional Physical Requirements include abilities to:

Inspect damaged vehicles, in a wide variety of sometimes adverse weather conditions.

Inspect damaged vehicles in a wide variety of geographic, and sometimes physically difficult, indoor and outdoor locations and conditions.

Enter high volumes of data and text into various computer software applications.

Operate controls of cell phones, digital cameras, laptop computers, desktop computers and computer peripherals.

Visual Acuity Requirements, Clerical/Administrative: Ability to read and refer to high volumes of written material, plus text, illustrations, diagrams, pictures and photos from a computer monitor and/or laptop display.

Hearing Requirements: Perceive detailed information with or without assistance. High volume of telephone and face to face communication.

Mental Demand: Ability to perform complex thought processes for extended periods of time.

Environmental Requirements: Controlled and uncontrolled inside and outside environmental conditions.
