Reporting to the Sr. Director of Engineering Technical Support, responsible for establishing business scope and requirements for the Global Engineering and Facilities function at MedImmune located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Must have extensive understanding of work processes required for biotechnology production plants with emphasis on the front end of a capital construction project. Individual must possess the necessary skills to perform programming and planning of highly complex projects. Proven ability to work with in team-oriented projects and effectively lead user group interviews and work sessions. In-depth knowledge of programming and planning parameters with a background in pharmaceutical and biotech facilities preferred. Will act as the “front-end” of a process that ultimately establishes the solution to projects identified on the Corporation's long-range capital plan. Specifically, must have strong experience in biotechnology manufacturing, both bulk and secondary, with highly desired experience in research and development facilities, pilot plans, laboratories, and support facilities for these purposes. Education/license and experience requirements are as follows: • Bachelor’s degree in related field and at least 15 years of related experience; or • Master’s degree of PhD. In related filed with 12 years of related experience; or • MD with 8 years of related experience. Job Summary In this role, the AD of Process Architecture will provide leadership to the Process Architecture group. The group in total will have both manufacturing experience, and laboratory/office space experience. In addition, it will be necessary to possess the following leadership skills: • Ability to matrix-manage multi-disciplinary teams on highly collaborative efforts; • Act as an advisor to lower level managers and staff members to help them meet schedules or resolve operational problems. • Ability to work in teams with outstanding leadership, influence, facilitations, assertiveness, consensus building, and interaction skills In addition to providing leadership to execute department operation strategies and plans, responsibilities include: 1. Work with Senior Management to assist in determining organizational strategic objectives and conduct briefings. 2. Assist in determining and establishing organizational structures and supervisory relationships. 3. Ability to lead Programming and Conceptual design phases as follows: a. Establishing and updating specific site plans; b. Developing conceptual project scope; and c. Develop scope alternatives. 4. Provide a supporting role to Capital Projects Executives and Project Controls groups 5. Ability to interface with PFD’s including (but not limited to) material, workforce, and product flows. 6. Ensure that overall budgets, schedules and performance standards are realistically set and attained for review by senior management. 7. Function as “working manager” on higher priority or difficult projects and may participate in aspects of study design, review, analysis, interpretation and reporting. Rarely becomes involved in daily operational activities. 8. May lead administrative departmental activities such as budgeting and staffing. 9. Anticipate staffing shortfalls and negotiate with contractors and consultants for additional short-term resources. 10. Assist in developing departmental performance standards and operating procedures. 11. Assist in establishing departmental policies and procedures. 12. Influence the development of overall objectives and long-range goals of the department. 13. May represent the department or MedImmune as a primary internal and external contact. 14. May participate in negotiations with regulatory agencies as needed. 15. This role will be responsible for (or will provide extensive support to the SD Engineering Technical Support) strategic master planning at both MedImmune corporate and site levels. 16. Depending upon the candidate’s background, this role may also be responsible for real estate operations and support within Global Engineering.
