About the Position

As a growing organization there is hands-on accounting work in this position but we must also tend to our emerging needs. We seek to hire a skilled accounting professional who can address the work at hand, with and a staff of two, but also add new dimension to the role, serving as a resource to the Executive Director and Board of Governors on matters of:

o Strategic planning from a financial perspective.

o Investments and planning for the use of our reserves.

o Forecasting and analysis for better decision making

o Budgeting process and financial system improvements (accounting software, banking, etc)

o Institution of new accounting methods, if needed.

o Management of the accounting firm

o Financial approaches to meeting member needs (dues structures, pricing, etc)

o Oversight of eventual HR functions and benefits

o Financial policy development

o Possible special funds management (i.e. scholarship, etc.),

About the Department

The department of three, including the Assistant Director - Finance, is responsible for:

o Accounts receivable (including e commerce routines)

o Credit card transactions (online Paymentech)

o Accounts payable

o Bank reconciliation for multiple accounts

o Journal entries, adjustments and problem solving

o Preparations for the handling of financial transactions at an annual meeting of 9,000 participants

o Financial statement preparation

o Financial reporting (projections, forecasting and analysis)

o Budgeting

o Balance Sheets

o Year-end closing

o Payroll and employee time tracking

o Interface with accounting firm, volunteer committees, and Board of Governors

o 1099s, tax, audit and other compliance

o Financial reporting for 24 divisions

o Investment postings

o Special projects

Qualifications:

o Minimum Bachelors Degree in Accounting; Masters Degree preferred

o Minimum 10 years of professional experience

o Knowledge of QuickBooks

o CPA and non profit experience preferred

Abilities:

o Technology - Excellent computer skills including mastery of Excel spreadsheets and familiarity with web-based technologies

o Communication –convey financial data in concise, understandable terms, orally before groups and in written reports.

o Analysis and Problem Solving - gather and analyze data; make policy and management recommendations. Solve problems.

o Teamwork —foster cohesive working relationships with staff and volunteers

o Initiative—handle multiple job responsibilities, maintain a high level of accomplishment and implement process improvements

Location:
Briarcliff Manor, NY. Located in an academic setting on the Briarcliff campus of Pace University.
