Assistant Bursar


Queens College, CUNY, seeks an Assistant Bursar, who will report directly to the Associate Bursar in the Bursar’s Office. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Supervision and reconciliation of all vouchers and waivers for tuition and fees, including processing of all budgeted waivers for payment to the University and payment application and reconciliation.
• Supervision and approval of the refund process, including automated CHECKREF file, manually prepared requests for refunds, and credit-card refunds.
• Recommending and implementing goals and objectives as they relate to reorganization and streamlining office procedures in collaboration with Associate Bursar.
• Overseeing the collection desk and implementation of electronic file transfers with collection agencies subsequent to CUNY First installation.
• Directing the 1098T process from beginning (coordinating file generation with IT department) to end (servicing students via the hotline and reporting corrections to the IRS).
• Responsibility for supervision of evening hours, generally once a week. During peak periods, more frequent evening hours may be required.
• Responding to student inquiries via telephone, email, written correspondence, and in person. Responsibility for updating our telephone recorded messages.
• Maintaining a Web page and updating it as needed.
• Acting in the absence of the Associate Bursar when necessary.

Requirements:

Bachelor degree required, plus four (4) years of higher education experience in the student services area. Also essential are excellent oral and written communication; superior attention to detail; and Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and customer-service skills. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred. Must be able to work collaboratively with departments and staff, as well as students.

Benefits:

Salary: $38,801–$53,947, commensurate with experience; excellent benefits.
