Analytical Chemist Needed
With QA / QC / Statistical Quality Control
using Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC), and GC / Gas Chromatographs +++
For Direct-Hire Full-Time Employment With
A Major Oil and Gas Company

LOCATION: Orange County, CA (Los Angeles)
SALARY: to $90,000 or so based on experience.

This Major Oil and Gas Company, Our Client of 30 Years, is a Very Large, Very High Profitability Oil Company that has operated in California and around the globe for many years. This major refinery has a top notch laboratory and major commitment to quality and professionalism.

At least Several Years of Analytical Experience since your BS or BA in Chemistry Degree in an Industrial Quality Assurance Laboratory using GC, SFC and other systems will qualify you for consideration, even if your have worked in another industry such as biochemicals, pharmaceuticals, or other industrial chemicals using these systems. Many of the analyses run in this lab involve hydrocarbons or other oil refinery fluids.

ROLE:

Support the quality assurance laboratory;Troubleshoot routine analytical problems;Act as technical resource for the QA lab technicians, specialists and supervisors;Responsible for ensuring that the instrumentation used for analysis is maintained in good working order and has been calibrated;Install new equipment/ develop new procedures as needed;Review QA lab data performing the secondary data review for analyses conducted by lab technicians;Review and critique lab procedures and write operating procedures for the laboratory; Show initiative in improving analytical methodology;
Support training of lab technicians developing lab technicians through work direction and real time coaching;Establish technical leadership in his/her field within the organization;Support operating units as needed with analytical and applied chemistry;Interface with peers (contact engineers, process technicians, operations supervisors, etc.) in the business groups on a daily basis;Function as a member of the manufacturing team - identifying problems, analyzing problems and implementing solutions;Participate in the planning and execution of plant tests;Act as an applied chemistry technical resource to operating personnel;
Support business group technology organizations;Interact with QA lab peers at Company sites around the world making the same products and using similar analytical methods;Assist in qualification of new feed streams;Maintain the chemical inventory; Maintain the reference standard program.

REQUIREMENTS:

Strong grasp of Analytical Concepts
(Knowledge of Statistical Quality Control is a plus);Working Knowledge of Modern Instrumental Techniques such as:
(Gas Chromatography (GC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC), GCMass Spectroscopy (GCMS), Atomic Absorption (AA), Inductively Couple Plasma (ICP), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), Mooney viscosity, etc.);Willing and capable of learning to troubleshoot instrument problems and perform minor maintenance;A thorough understanding of techniques is essential to accurately assess the validity of the data generated;Capable of working with diverse groups.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Bachelors Degree in Chemistry
Masters Welcome But this is not a PhD position.

USA Citizenship or USA Permanent Resident Card Owner

Minimum Knowledge of the Petrochemical Industry and its Products is desired as well.
