PURPOSE:
Provides financial analysis of Aviva Capital Management (ACM) financial performance as measured against plan and against market benchmarks. Utilizes expertise by providing counselling on complex accounting issues. Assists with ACMs annual budget and the investment income plan for Aviva Group.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Leads the process to develop the annual plan of consolidated net investment income for Aviva Group.
Determines best approach to project investment income for each asset type. Solicits input from ACM senior management on assumptions and projections.
Analyzes actual and/or projected actual GAAP consolidated net investment income results against plan on a monthly/quarterly basis.
o Quantifies variance to plan using actual results into measurable categories including interest yields, net production, general turnover and rate/volume analysis.
o Reviews output for reasonability to determine if further analysis is necessary.
o Provides summary of results to senior management on ACMs financial performance and to cost center managers on expenses. Researches and resolves variances and inconsistencies by conducting an investigation of accounts, applying normal accounting techniques and standard practices.
Prepares annual performance appraisal template consisting of contribution margins for various investment types.
o Updates template throughout the year using actual revenue and expenses.
o Prepares annual incentive compensation analysis using actual investment management activity measured against market benchmarks.
Assists with special projects for ACM.
Assists Controller in determining appropriate accounting treatment for new investment vehicles and technical, procedural and application expertise on special requests.
Researches GAAP or Statutory accounting and coordinates with outside auditors on appropriate treatment and/or assists with regulatory inquiries, 10K information, alternative investments, derivative strategies or what if financial analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in accounting or finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
MBA preferred.
CPA or CMA preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in industry or public accounting required.
Experience in various investment instruments required.
Experience in GAAP and/or Statutory accounting required.
Prior experience with a variety of personal computer software systems required, preferably Excel and Access.
