Job Description:
SAIC, teamed with The Boeing Company, was selected as the Lead System Integrator (LSI) for the U.S. Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS). The team was awarded a $21 billion contract to execute the Army’s Future Combat Systems Development and Demonstration Program. The FCS SDSI IPT (Software and Distributed Systems Integration Integrated Product Team) provides System of Systems (SoS) level software engineering activities to support and manage the development and employment of the FCS Brigade Combat Team. This ambitious Army’s transformation program requires the partnership between the LSI and Government to work with the best-of-industry to explore the state-of-the-art technologies in tactical communications and networking, ad hoc wireless communications, information assurance, command and control, and ISR technologies. Generally, the AETF (Army Experimentation Task Force) Software Field Support Team will manage, coordinate, and assist in providing FCS Network & Battle Command System (BCS) SW Field Support to the AETF.
Position is located in the FCS facility in El Paso, TX.
Specific to this job requisition, the SDSI IPT needs a Senior Software Engineer to support the integration, verification, and test of BCS software items with platform and system/sub-system simulations/emulations at Ft. Bliss/White Sands Missile Range (BLSMR). The successful candidate will participate in planning and execution of integration, verification, and test of Network systems hardware and software items to include BCS software items, sensors, radios, ICS and Comp Programs at BLSMR. The position includes supporting the AETF unit at Ft. Bliss during non-test events utilizing FCS software and equipment. The selected candidate will be required to collaborate with personnel at both internal and external FCS sites and with field service representatives providing support for One Team Partner software and hardware products. This position reports to the SAIC Deputy Program Director for the FCS SDSI IPT.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related scientific discipline is required. Graduate degree is highly preferred.
Required Skills:
Candidate must currently hold secret clearance, or be able to obtain secret clearance. This usually requires US citizenship. Candidate must have a minimum of 12 years experience in Software Systems Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of relevant and recent project management office experience (DoD programs desired). The typical candidate will have recent project management office or systems acquisition experience in Army command and control systems development. The candidate should have experience in fielding combat systems to the Active Military force; have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate difficult concepts to various audiences; and, have the ability to accomplish tasks under limited supervision. A strong ability to work as a contributing team member or manager of multiple teams is also required. The candidate must be willing to travel, on the average, 25% of each month.
Desired Skills:
Recent senior-level experience on DoD software-intensive programs is highly desired. In depth understanding of Army tactical, communications and other C4ISR aspects is highly desired. Senior professional experience and familiarity with government contracts, the Federal Government, and the Department of Defense is desirable. Previous experience working with software testing in a field environment, both from the perspective of creating the field anomaly report and from the test environment that must recreate the anomaly, would be beneficial. A working knowledge of Rational’s ClearCase and ClearQuest would be beneficial.
