The Crystal City (Arlington, VA) campus seeks qualified professionals to provide instruction on analog and digital electronics, mathematics, advanced communications, network and computer technologies, and software development and programming to undergraduate students. Supervise faculty assistants as needed. Support administrative request related to instruction, training, etc. Note some courses may also be available at our Bethesda, MD location.


POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for facilitating student learning by delivering educational courses and programs in accordance with DeVry University requirements. Develop course syllabi and lesson plans, and apply teaching techniques to best achieve course and programmatic objectives. All faculty employment is at-will.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and provide students with an approved DeVry University syllabus that follows a template established by the local campus consistent with the course curriculum guide, and which includes the terminal course objectives.

2. Organize and complete all attendance and reporting documents in the time required.

3. Use appropriate technological options for online technologies and course-related software, including Websites, e-mail, and online discussions for preparing the course and making it accessible to students.

4. Model effective oral and written communications that engage the students, provide clarity, and improve student learning.

5. Set clear expectations for the course by publishing course terminal objectives, all assignment/examinations dates, and show the grade weight distribution of various evaluation categories.

6. Continually monitor student progress in the course and respond to student emails in a timely manner.

7. Demonstrate consistency and fairness in the preparation and grading of exams, and provide timely feedback to students.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS

Education:

All applicants must possess a Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university, in the appropriate teaching field or in a closely related field.

Experience:

Three years of industry experience. Understanding of electronics including CPLD, operating systems, network architectures and protocols, and software design methodologies is required. Computer literacy in MS Office programs, UNIX, Assembly, C++, Java, CASE tools, and test equipment usage is needed.

The ability to incorporate the application of technology in classroom instruction and lab environments where applicable; strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with others in a team environment; excellent motivational and instructional skills in a diverse and non-traditional environment; knowledge of pedagogy; strong organizational skills; strong technology skills; willingness to develop additional classroom delivery skills; and a willingness to participate in continuing professional development.


APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications for consideration are accepted via DeVry’s online automated application process. After application review, the evaluation process will consist of a telephone interview and invitation to the campus to perform a teaching demonstration as a guest lecturer. Resumes will be reviewed upon receipt and accepted until the position is filled.


COMPENSATION

Adjuncts are classified as Independent Contractors and are paid by invoice midway through semester (for 15 week courses) or at session end (for 8 week accelerated courses). Adjuncts who hold Master's degrees are paid $825 per credit per course. Adjuncts who hold PhD (or equivalent) degrees are paid $900 per credit per course.
