Interplastic Corporation, is a leading manufacturer and national supplier of polyester, vinyl ester resins, gel coats and colorants.  Our continued growth and success has created an immediate need for an experienced PUTTY CHEMIST at our Minneapolis, Minnesota Laboratory.

 

Major Areas of Accountability:

 

1.      Support the existing putty and adhesive product line through:

 

Assisting Manufacturing and Quality Assurance in optimizing production and preventing customer complaints. Supporting Technical Service in addressing customer inquiries and providing product recommendations. Obtaining pertinent product performance data and keeping product Technical Data Sheets up to date. Modifying formulas for improved manufacturing and performance improvement.

2.      Support the growth of putty and adhesive business through:

 

Developing new products in response to requests from sales. Investigating new raw materials and processes in adhesive formulating. Testing of new putty products. Identifying suitable application and production equipment. Maintain ownership through scale up and commercialization. Creating and maintaining necessary in house documentation such as formulas, Material Safety Data sheets and Technical Data Sheets. Issuing timely technical reports. Training Technical Service and Sales staff as new products emerge.

 Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

·                    A minimum of B.S. / B.A in chemistry or materials science.

·                    Experience in formulating and testing of putties and adhesives.

·                    The ability to manage projects from inception to conclusion.

·                    Good written and oral communication skills.

·                    Self starter and independent worker.

·                    Experience in product scale up.

·                    Good interpersonal skills.

·                    Experience with 100% solids or high solids solvent based technology.

·                    Knowledge of composites bonding and surface science.
