The Massachusetts Department of Revenue is seeking an experienced financial professional to work in our Financial Services Bureau. The Director of Revenue Accounting reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for preparing timely and accurate financial reports, maintaining internal controls, overseeing manual check-writing, bank reconciliations, local option distributions, fiscal year-end closing and managing a staff of accounting professionals who account for over $20 billion per year. The Director of Revenue Accounting must ensure work is performed within DOR policies and procedures, state laws and regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

 

The Director’s major responsibilities include planning, directing and controlling Revenue Accounting operations. Such responsibilities include: developing the unit’s annual business plan, establishing policies and procedures, producing monthly and annual financial reports, working as a liaison with internal and external auditors, interacting with the State Treasurer, State Comptroller, State Auditor and other state agencies, developing and implementing accounting processes and procedures for new revenue sources and programs, analyzing workflows and making recommendations to streamline or enhance operations and serving on various committees and task forces.

 

The successful candidate will be a team-oriented individual with strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills along with the ability to manage multiple priorities within strict deadlines, be able to work independently and be highly proficient in Excel, Access, Word and Web based applications.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

•Previous Management experience.

•Comprehensive understanding and prior experience with the design and implementation of accounting policies and procedures across business units.

•Knowledge of the Commonwealth’s Accounting System (MMARS).

•Knowledge of Masstax.

•Experience with Electronic transactions and NACHA requirements.

•Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting.

•Ability to coordinate the efforts of others in accomplishing assigned work objectives.

•Excellent problem solving and decision making skills.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization.

•Ability to prepare general and financial reports.

•Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
