As an Accounting Manager/Fund Controller, you will oversee the general ledger accounting and financial reporting for a number of mutual funds within our American Funds family. We are seeking an individual who has demonstrated an exceptional ability to assess performance, provide feedback, and develop team members to deliver superior business results. Other responsibilities include:Directly manage a team of three to five Mutual Fund Accountants, Senior Accountants, Lead Senior Accountants, and Team Managers.Work with Senior Team Managers and Fund Treasurers to report fund information to fund officers and Board of Directors Oversee fund financial reporting, including annual and semi-annual reports, SEC filings and Board of Directors' reports Analyze accounting and investment impacts to general ledger and tax reporting Review fund transactions, including dividends, interest, corporate actions, fund and portfolio purchases and sales Lead special projectsIn addition to routine responsibilities mentioned above, you will have the opportunity to work on special projects involving new business issues and to present mutual fund reports to fund officers. You can also expect to work collaboratively with your peers to manage resources, enhance work processes, and improve overall service delivered to our internal and external client groups.
Qualifications The qualified candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or a related degreeMinimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, finance or a related functionAt least 2 years of management/supervisory experienceFlexibility to work additional hours as needed during peak business periodsStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong computer skills, especially in ExcelDemonstrate an exceptional standard of quality: this involves accuracy, attention to detail, organization and self review skills, thoughtful analysis and problem-solving, and accountability for excellent resultsGAAP and SEC reporting experience a plus, but not requiredGeneral knowledge of mutual funds and experience in the investment management industry a plus, but not requiredCPA or MBA a plus, but not required
