Position Description
The transplant specialist is responsible for his/her own professional judgments and is accountable to the consumer. He/she is responsible to the physician supervisor for practices, medical diagnoses and therapeutics, and employing institution to practice in established description of the specialist role.
The transplant specialist must demonstrate a high level of accountability to persons served and to team members.
The transplant specialist shall possess knowledge and skills necessary to perform the tasks recommended by the Standards of Practice for Clinical Transplant Coordinators. Transplant coordinator shall achieve American Board of Transplant Coordinator (ABTC) entry-level certification within two years from the time of employment. Certification is maintained current active status.
Education and Experience
Registered Nurse licensed to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required. Masters in nursing or Masters in Social Work and certification in advanced nursing practice preferred. Minimum of three years experience required with some experience in care of patients with end stage abdominal organ disease required. Program planning and development experience preferred.
